Anthropic Challenges OpenAI with $1 AI Offer to U.S. Federal Agencies

Anthropic has launched a $1 annual subscription offer for its Claude AI platform to U.S. federal agencies, mirroring OpenAI's recent ChatGPT Enterprise deal. The program, coordinated through the General Services Administration, covers executive, legislative, and judicial branches while including technical support for implementation.

The MOVE intensifies competition for government AI contracts, coming weeks after OpenAI's similar offer and xAI's Grok for Government release. Anthropic differentiates itself with Claude Gov, a specialized suite developed for national security applications since June.

Federal AI procurement is accelerating, evidenced by July's $200 million Department of Defense awards split between Anthropic, Google, OpenAI, and xAI. Tech firms are aggressively pursuing public-sector adoption, with OpenAI establishing a Washington D.C. office and dedicated government division.
